Call for Papers: Iraq and a new era for The Middle East: The future of transatlantic relations
Within the past decade no other topic has produced such a mass of polarizing opinions on both sides of the Atlantic as the subject of Iraq. The past ten years have seen a War on Terror launched against a state, an historical dictatorship fall as well as the subsequent establishment of a western democratic infrastructure in a state dominated by authoritarianism.
We are the Young Transatlantic Conservative Alliance, a youth based think tank whose goal is to understand, connect and to promote a mutual understanding between Conservative minded youths from across the Atlantic.
The topic of Iraq tested, strained and at times soured the transatlantic relationship between European nations and America. The war to liberate Iraq has long ended and now the final withdrawal of foreign troops has approached. However Iraq and its newly established democratic structures will continue to be an important factor in not only the stability of the Middle East, but also the international community for years to come.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Are you interested in voicing your opinion on the ever-changing context of Iraq and how this impacts on the international community?
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Do you wish to be part of an international project for a global Think Tank?
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Do you wish to be published online?
We are looking for a series of opinion pieces from a variety of people from America and Europe to investigate the varying opinions upon particular hot topics concerning Iraq. Through gathering a series of varying opinion pieces, we will launch an online project publicizing and analyzing the interesting and fruitful debate, which such opinion pieces will reveal.
This opportunity will give you the chance to voice your comments/ concerns/ opinions/ frustrations upon the continuing and evolving situation within Iraq, whilst also having the chance to be published online.
We have 3 central topics that you can choose to write upon, which can be interpreted in any way that you perceive.
1)Â Â Â The invasion into Iraq and its initial impact upon the transatlantic relationship.
2)Â Â Â The relationship with Iran and the future of Middle Eastern stability.
3)Â Â Â The withdrawal of American troops and end to direct Western influence in the state- the future of Iraq post withdrawal?
The length and content of your piece is completely up to you. Please write all responses in English.
Please send any responses/ questions/ comments to Alison Leonard:
With your submission please also provide your name, email, and a few short sentences about yourself.
